*** MEDIA ADVISORY ***

RPC WILL HOLD A TOWN HALL TO ENGAGE NYC LGBTQIA2S+ COMMUNITIES.

LOCAL, NATIONAL, AND GLOBAL ISSUES AFFECTING ALL OUR LGBTQIA2S+ COMMUNITIES ARE ON THE TABLE.

THE QUEER LIBERATION MARCH IS ANNOUNCED FOR PRIDE SUNDAY IN 2024.

New York City, January 9, 2024

The Reclaim Pride Coalition (RPC) kicks off 2024 by holding a COMMUNITY TOWN HALL on Friday January 26th, from 7 - 9pm at The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center to launch the planning for the 2024 Queer Liberation March. This meeting is our annual opportunity for members of NYC's LGBTQIA2S+ communities to discuss the issues that they are facing, to advocate for those that they care about, and to engage new organizers on planning every aspect of this year's March.

“This meeting comes at a time when Queer & Trans people – from Times Square to Main Street – are facing unprecedented focus and attacks from Republican leadership, Christian Nationalists and other domestic terrorist groups,” said Paul Nocera, a queer/bisexual Organizer with Reclaim Pride since 2018.

Clarifying further, Mariama Morray, an organizer with Reclaim Pride said “Republican administrations in Texas and Florida, among others, are working systematically to erase any expression that does not conform with narrow outdated and oppressive gender norms & moral structures.”  -I Suggest Not Mentioning specific states, or at least not these two. As someone w/ fam in over 30 states, this growing mindset that the worst bigotry is only in these 2 states is incorrect. It allows more of what’s going on in many other states as well to be less noticed when these two are often lifted and named. Moms for Liberty currently planned Town Hall in MANHATTAN def spotlights that this bigotry is everywhere in this country. - Jess

Reclaim Pride as a coalition of NYC-based organizers recognizes fully that impact of war, the systematic dissection of civil rights, and attacks on democratic institutions. They all work to amplify anti-LGBQ and anti-trans sentiments and they stoke political violence against us.  The ongoing collusion of “cops, courts, and corrections” also has an outsized impact on  LGBTQIA2S+ people who have been pushed to the margins as a challenge to any basic sense of fairness in society.

The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center is located at 208 W 13th St in Manhattan. Virtual attendance will be possible through RPC’s social media channels (facebook and YouTube).  The Center is wheelchair accessible, & ASL interpretation will be available for both in-person and virtual attendees. For folks with children, at least one childminder will be available to supervise children in the same room as the meeting.

<=================>

The Reclaim Pride Coalition is the grassroots collective that has organized the Queer Liberation March in New York City every June since 2019. We seek to honor and reclaim the spirit of the Stonewall Riots, centering and amplifying the voices and needs of marginalized LGBTQIA2S+ communities. In the tradition of early Pride Marches, we reject corporate sponsorship and police involvement. As a community, we take to the streets to challenge systemic oppression, advocate for justice, and create a world where all queer and transgender individuals are free to live authentically and without fear.
